Today as yesterday the question arises, have not enough signs manifested in the person of Jesus that indicate that the Kingdom of God is present? What happens that we are not always able to see or recognize the action of God in our life, in our history?
Today’s Gospel invites us to pay attention to the signs of the times and to better perceive that God is present in our personal events and in human history. To better understand the everyday, that is, the reality that surrounds us, the Christian is called to look at it and illuminate it from faith, a faith in a God of justice, peace, forgiveness, and love.
We are surrounded by many distractions which can make us fall into superficiality. When problems and moments of crisis come to us, it is often then we remember that we should have anticipated certain things in advance. Many times, we leave for tomorrow what we should do today. We think there will always be time available. It is difficult for us to look inward and use our hearts more than our senses and mind.
Pope Francis explains that, to understand the signs of the times today, we need to be silent, observe, reflect, and pray. Perhaps today is a good day to start and to ask ourselves with what eyes do I see reality? Let us ask God that when we listen to or read the news on television, in the newspapers, or on a cell phone, we may perceive the callings of God in these events and thus, be able to see the action of God in our life and our history.
