“Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so.” Saint Theresa of Calcutta said once that:
“God walks away when we distance ourselves from the brother. Sometimes we have the impression that the Teacher is gone, but is it not rather that it is because I have distanced myself from the other? She continues saying that there is one thing that will guarantee us to go to heaven: acts of charity and kindness. We will never know the good that a simple smile can do. We are good at telling others how great, understanding, forgiving God is. But are we living proof of it? Can they really realize the greatness, understanding, and forgiveness of God by seeing it alive in us?
We spend our lives focused on so many things. The routine of work and daily life consumes us and we lose the true meaning of our life. At the end of our lives, we will be evaluated in love. Am I ready? In our life we have learned to prepare everything necessary for our children to go to school with everything they need, we prepare all the details when we go on vacation or have to take a long trip. But are we preparing everything necessary to be in the presence of God forever?
Every day that God gives us is an opportunity to grow in charity and compassion. God wants to meet us in many ways. Sometimes we are very distracted, or we have other priorities, and we lose that opportunity. That is why it is important to be vigilant.
Today may be a good day to ask ourselves what aspects of our life we should correct before Sister Death visits us. To what extent are we capable of loving our neighbor as Jesus asks of us? Let’s not put off until tomorrow what we can do today. Let’s do everything we can today, as if it were our last day. Let no one meet us without us having given them a gesture or act of love. Let’s be someone for others.
