We are more and more close to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. As part of this season, we listen to “Holidays Songs.” Most of them are upbeat, joyous, and get us excited. I listen to them in English, Spanish, and French. However, there are also true Christmas songs which help us take some time to reflect on the events we are called to celebrate next week.
For me, one of them is Joseph’s song by Michael Card. It is a very inspirational and reflective song. What touches me about this song is the question that must have gone through the mind of Joseph, “How could it be?” It must have been a difficult time to find out that Mary was pregnant with a child, whom he knew was not his, at least not biologically. And also, to have a dream in which an angel announces that this child is the promised Messiah.
In my opinion, the most important part in the song, is the prayer that Joseph prays to God, “Father, show me where I fit into this plan of yours.” What a beautiful and powerful prayer! This should be our prayer as well, not just now as we prepare to celebrate Christmas, but always, every day of our life.
