Reopening Masses and Returning to Ministry

by May 10, 2021Parish Blog

As the parish begins to make plans for parish life post-pandemic and open up Masses, it’s time for you to begin to think about becoming involved and volunteering for ministries. Volunteering at Mass is a beautiful way to share your warm smile and gifts, to grow in faith and serve others.

Lectors

God speaks to us through Sacred Scriptures. The role of Lector is to proclaim that Holy Word to the folks gathered at Mass. Your voice tells the stories of the prophets, the kings, saints, and of the early church. Express your interest and reach out to Pequitte ([email protected]). Young Adult and Teens – be part of this great ministry!

Altar Servers

Teens, youth and children (10 years and older) – young adults, too! – help the priests in the celebration of Mass. This ministry is a unique one in the Catholic Church. You are privileged to play a part in the preparation of the Eucharist. Your participation as an Altar Server is special as you serve the priests, the people of God, and above all, you serve Christ. Eucharistic Ministers

Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers (EMs) assist the presiding priest in offering the Precious Body and Blood of Christ to the faithful. “It is a gift to be a Eucharistic Minister – to share the Body and Blood of Christ with another,” said one Eucharistic Minister reflecting on her experience. This moment is unique because it is both personal and much bigger than the two people. Interested? Contact Chanel ([email protected])

Sacristans

At St. Francis, there are men and women who do the quiet work of preparing for and assisting at Mass. Sacristans care for altar linens, order wine and hosts, arrange liturgical books for the altar, prepare the altar, light candles, order seasonal flowers, and lots of small unnoticed things. Our celebrations are wonderfully enhanced by their ministry. Interested? Reach out to Pequitte ([email protected]).

Ushers and Greeter

The role of the usher/greeter is one of offering a friendly presence to those coming to Mass, of providing leadership during emergencies and performing such tasks as taking up the collection, presenting the gifts, and assisting parishioners during Communion – always conscious of Christ’s words “For I was…a stranger and you welcomed me,” (Matthew 25:35) Interested? Choir and Music

Music is a vital part of the celebration of the Mass. This ministry shares the faith and serve the community, expressing the love of God and neighbors through music.   As we celebrate the Sunday mass, we encourage and promote active participation by means of acclamations, responses, psalmody, antiphons, and songs. And we have fun! Interested? Contact Nikki ([email protected])
