Scripture: One Book at a Time

The whole of Sacred Scripture is a single narrative that promises and points to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of the World. It is an epic story, the greatest ever told, and told "one book at a time." Each book makes it contribution to the narrative as God reveals God's self to us and his desire that all be saved.

Lesson 6: Exodus (Part 2)

Events at Mt. Sinai

In our last session we reviewed the story of Moses from his birth up to his commissioning as the person to lead Israel out of slavery in Egypt to return to the land promised to Abraham and his ancestors. By the end of Exodus 18 the People of God need to be rescued – but are already grumbling. At the start of our lesson for this week, we consider all the events that occurred at Mt. Sinai.

The first video is a overview of Exodus 19-40 and will complete our summary review of the second book of the Pentateuch.  Last week there was a video on the nature of Old Testament Law as a “warm up” for this week when the Ten Commandments (The Law) is given. There is an additional video on the Law this week – in preparation for next week’s overview of the The Book of Leviticus.

Last week we also considered the theme of God’s blessings as they continue to be present in the readings. This week we highlight three other themes that will continue to be part of the single narrative leading to Jesus: the Presence of God, Temple, and holiness. Also, take a moment to look at the supplemental presentation: Presence and the Profane.
