by May 2, 2022VOICE

URGENT ACTION NEEDED

The Prince William County Board of County Supervisors will meet on Tuesday, May 10, at 2:00 and 7:30 to consider the draft Comprehensive Plan, which includes HOUSING.

Now is the time to let your supervisor know your concerns about affordable housing in the County.  Your message can be brief or detailed.  Following are some talking points.

  • We need affordable work force housing
    • so our teachers, nurses, police officers, emergency personnel, and others who work in the county can afford to live here!
  • We need affordable home buying options
    • for households making 120% of the average medium income or roughly $131K. The number of households with income at this level is 2.5 times the number of housing units available.
  • We need affordable rental units
    • for households making 30% of the average medium income or roughly $33K.  Households in this category exceed rental units by 6 to 1.
  • We need creative solutions to the affordable housing issue in Prince William County.
    • Establish an Affordable Housing Trust Fund
    • Implement an Affordable Dwelling Unit ordinance
    • Explore public private partnerships
    • Assure re-zoning options address environmental concerns
